School management system vs LMS for schools

Schools usually buy a school management system for the office and then discover the classroom half is missing — or buy an LMS and discover the office half is. Here is the split, and what a combined system actually looks like day to day.

The office half

A school management system holds student and staff records, admissions and approvals, timetables, fee ledgers with receipts and reminders, staff payouts and expenses, and the reporting the principal reads. It is a records-and-money system.

The classroom half

An LMS holds the teaching: sessions and online classes, notes and recordings, homework, quizzes, marking with remarks and annotated returns, attendance and progress. It is a delivery-and-evidence system.

Why the seam is expensive

When they are separate products, someone re-types enrolments each term, attendance exists twice with different totals, and a student who transfers out keeps appearing in one of them. The cost shows up as staff hours and as parent complaints, not as a line on an invoice.

What a combined system looks like

In HTS-LMS the teacher marks attendance and homework in the same platform that issues the monthly fee invoice, and the parent logs in once to see class schedule, attendance percentage, fee status with receipts and assignment grades. Notes and recordings are deliberately not exposed to parent accounts.

If you already have a school ERP

You do not have to replace it. HTS-LMS integrates with EduManager for admissions, RFID attendance hardware and payroll, so students, batches and fee records stay in sync while learning, recordings and grading happen in HTS-LMS.

Frequently asked questions

Can one system really do both well?
The test is whether the two halves share a single student record. If enrolment, attendance, grades, fees and parent access all read the same row, there is no seam to maintain.
Do parents see everything teachers see?
No. In HTS-LMS parents see classes, attendance, fees and grades for their own children only; notes and class recordings are restricted to student accounts.
